Mobile Benefits Advisory Unit

The Action Center’ is so proud to partner with New York Common Pantry and the Food Bank with a Mobile Benefits Advisory Unit. What that means for the Rockaways and the Action Center is that four days a week, two at Ocean Bay and two  at Hammels we have a mobile unit outside the center so that residents can have benefits applications completed, have their benefits accessed to make sure they are maximizing them, and receive quality of life and job training services to help them move further beyond the poverty continuum. The mobile unit is staffed with a benefits coordinator who provides direct assistance to the clients with food stamps, medicare, social security benefits, SCRIE/DRIE, HEAP, financial counseling.  While public assistance applications can be started on the mobile unit, we also provide escort services to the residents assigned public assistance office.  The benefits coordinators will accompany the resident to the office and help them wade through the final application process.  The mobile unit is also staffed with a Health Navigator, as well as Tax prep assistance as needed.
